PostHeaderIcon Chronic Stress And Worry Can Make You Stupid

There is a saying in the field of Health Psychology that “although pessimists may have a more accurate view of the world, optimists live longer.”

Numerous studies have shown that not only do optimists live longer, they also tend to be healthier, happier and have a more robust immune system.

But, who would have guessed that pessimism – having dark, brooding or stressful thoughts – would negatively impact your intelligence (at least as far as your memory is concerned)?

Well, a recent study at Rush University Medical Center has shown that Stress and Pessimism can lead to mild cognitive impairment.

Although “mild cognitive impairment” may not sound like such a big deal, it’s important to know that this has been shown to be related to the development of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Over time, negative emotions like worry and anxiety may increase your risk of memory impairment by as much as 40 percent.

So, if you suffer from Chronic Stress and Worry, – in other words, if you are a chronic worrier, if you often feel tense and jittery, if you often get angry at the way people treat you, or if you often feel inferior to others – if these and other negative thoughts and beliefs are the characteristics that color your world, then you have reason to be concerned.
