After a series of panic attacks triggered by a traumatic event, Sarah no longer drives her car. Now, she walks to work everyday even though it takes four times as long. Sarah gets anxious and apprehensive simply thinking about sitting in her car.

Daily life has changed for Sarah. Often, Sarah will have an overwhelming feeling of fear when crossing a road. Sarah became a nervous and fearful driver from a self-assured driver, overnight. The thought of having another accident terrifies her.

Sleep problems can occur and sufferers may find themselves unable to sleep easily. They might display excessive caution and seem anxious all the time. For Sarah, getting into a car or any vehicle for her is virtually impossible.

But panic attacks while driving doesn’t have to because of an accident or traumatic experience. Panic attacks may occur because of irrational fear and anxiety itself. Often we create our own fears through negative thinking. We can develop phobias and fear from merely thinking about things which change our behavior.

Fear can feed itself and make one’s fear completely irrational. Mental associations are made all time both negative and positive shaping our beliefs and behaviors. A driver might experience panic attacks for a number of reasons. Possible reasons are;

# Having to drive fast.
# Driving on a busy road.
# Having a driver cut in front of you.
# Being at the receiving end of road rage.
# Traveling long distances.
# Driving in the dark.
