How many species of Candida do you think there is? Would you have guessed around 20 or more? Candida is what causes a yeast infection. When people think about yeast infections, generally the first form of yeast infection that comes to mind is the vaginal yeast infection. However yeast infections can occur in several different places such as: under the breasts, in skin folds, around dentures and in nail beds. Yeast likes to grow in places that are dark and have a lot of moisture, so in all actuality the vagina is considered its dream home. However it can be passed between partners through sexual intercourse.
There are several different symptoms of a yeast infection. These types of symptoms can include things such as: Soreness, vaginal discharge, pain during intercourse and pain during urination as well as itchiness. For women who are dealing with a yeast infection and have a vaginal discharge, this discharge is generally white-ish in color and appears to be quiet thick. The vaginal discharge generally resembles the look of cottage cheese.
There are several different types of yeast infection cures available to men and women who suffer from this form of vaginitis. There are medications that can be prescribed by your doctor to help clear up its symptoms; there are several different at home remedies that can also be used, such as unsweetened yogurt and garlic. Last but not least there are also the over-the-counter medications that can be purchased, especially if you’ve dealt with a yeast infection before. Purchasing over-the-counter medications however can be a tedious task, especially if you are trying to clear up something you do not have. Remember that a yeast infection can often become confused with another form of vaginitis.
If a woman has had four or more yeast infections during one year that have not been linked to antibiotics should visit their doctor to begin a more aggressive treatment.
